WHEREAS, approximately 600 individuals in Nevada are currently on the national organ transplant waiting list, and nationally 22 patients die each day due to the shortage of donated organs; and
WHEREAS, organ and tissue donations are life-giving acts recognized worldwide as expressions of compassion to those in need that save thousands of lives each year; and
WHEREAS, transplant donor networks partner with families, doctors, nurses, and coroners in the Silver State to connect donors to recipients; and
WHEREAS, organ and tissue donor referral services are dedicated to educating citizens about their ability to save lives by registering as a donor through the online Donor Registry or at the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles; and
WHEREAS, every donation is a powerful gift that can save the life of someone in need; and
WHEREAS, one person's donation of the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas and small intestine can save up to eight lives, and the donation of tissue can save and heal up to 75 others; and
WHEREAS, the month of April is an opportunity to increase awareness for organ and tissue donation, and a time to offer thanks and appreciation for the donors and families who inspire our communities;
