WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence extends widely and directly affects families and society as a whole; and

WHEREAS, the cruelties of domestic violence are found among all economic, cultural, gender, and social groups and require all Nevadans to take action to reduce harm; and

WHEREAS, the crime of domestic violence violates an individual's privacy, dignity, security, and humanity due to systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological, economic control and abuse; and

WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide ranging and inclusive, directly affecting society and prevention is essential to ending the cycle; and

WHEREAS, domestic violence victims face barriers in escaping abuse but also exhibit remarkable strength; and

WHEREAS, advocacy networks across Nevada have worked tirelessly on behalf of victims and remain dedicated to providing a voice f or victims and families while increasing awareness across the Silver State and October is a time to remember and honor all victims as well as those working toward the elimination of domestic violence;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  October 2017 as

 Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Nevada
