WHEREAS, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) affects between 200 and 400 children in the United States each year; and

WHEREAS, DIPG are highly aggressive and difficult to treat brain tumors found at the base of the brain; and

WHEREAS, DIPG is the second most common malignant brain tumor found in children and the leading cause of childhood death due to brain tumors; and

WHEREAS, prognosis has not improved for children with DIPS in more than 35 years, but new medical technology and research offers hope for treatments for children afflicted with this disease; and

WHEREAS, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day is an opportunity to increase public awareness of this childhood cancer and offer support for patients families and the medical community;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 17, 2017 as

 Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma Awareness Day In Nevada
