Proclamation Header


WHEREAS, by age 16, one out of five children will suffer the loss of one or both parents, or an immediate family member, and the majority of children face their grief alone, misunderstood and fearful; and

WHEREAS, grieving children and teens are often called forgotten mourners' because others erroneously believe they are resilient enough to get over their grief on their own; and

WHEREAS, the unresolved grief of children and teens may lead to depression, hopelessness and other mental health issues, including anxiety disorders and substance abuse; and

WHEREAS, organizations across the Silver State offer comfort and guidance to children, teenagers, and their families in their time of grief, while educating the community about the effects of unresolved grief;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  November 17, 2017 as

 Children's Grief Awareness Day in Nevada
