WHEREAS, cancer affects thousands of children each year, and is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children between infancy and age 15; and

WHEREAS, each year nearly 15,000 of our nation's youth will be diagnosed with a form of cancer, and therefore each September we honor and remember children across the country,families,friends, and medical professionals; and

WHEREAS, one in 285 children in the United States will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they are 20 years old; and

WHEREAS, one if five of our nation's children loses their battle with cancer, and many suffer long-term effects of comprehensive treatment, including secondary cancers; and

WHEREAS, incidences of childhood cancer across the State of Nevada are similar to the United States with leukemias occurring frequently, but unlike leukemia in adults, childhood leukemia is almost always acute; and

WHEREAS, during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, we take time to remember all those who have suffered from cancer and we look to spread awareness throughout the Silver State;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  September 2017 as

 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in Nevada
