Proclamation Header

 

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, a sufficient blood supply is a public safety issue both locally and nationally, and hospitals and medical centers need a readily available supply for residents and visitors; and

WHEREAS, one blood donation can help up to three patients, and although an estimated 38 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, less than 10 percent actually do; and

WHEREAS, in Nevada less than 5 percent of the eligible population donate blood at least once a year to support the community's blood needs; and

WHEREAS, the Silver State is home to a number of committed organizations working to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation; and

WHEREAS, Blood Donation Day is an opportunity to spread awareness and remind citizens of the constant need for blood donations;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  September 8, 2017 as

 Blood Donation Day in Nevada
