WHEREAS, Childhood Apraxia of Speech is a persistent and extremely challenging speech and communication disorder; and
WHEREAS, Childhood Apraxia of Speech causes children to have extreme difficulty learning to speak and is among the most severe of speech and communication problems in children; and
WHEREAS, the act of learning to speak comes effortlessly to most children, however those with apraxia endure an incredible and lengthy struggle; and
WHEREAS, without appropriate speech therapy intervention, children with apraxia are placed at high risk for secondary impacts in reading, writing, spelling, and other skills; and
WHEREAS, most children with apraxia of speech will learn to communicate with their own voices only if they receive early intervention and speech therapy; and
WHEREAS, Apraxia Awareness Day is a time to show respect for children and their families who face this disorder with determination and resilience, and an opportunity to increase awareness and understanding of Childhood Apraxia of Speech;
