WHEREAS, the President of the United States has designated March 2017 as American Red Cross Month, focusing on the lifesaving services that the American Red Cross has provided for 100 years; and

WHEREAS, in the event of any natural disaster, large scale emergency, or terrorist attack, America's first line of defense is its citizens and their willingness to voluntarily respond and assist their community, neighbors andfriends; and

WHEREAS, a properly trained and equipped citizenry supports America's professional responders including police, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel saving lives and limiting casualties; and

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross of Nevada has taken the lead since 1917 in preparing our residents and our community by teaching lifesaving skills including CPR, first aid, and aquatics to thousands ofNevadans a year; and

WHEREAS, the volunteers ofthe American Red Cross help families affected by fire or local disaster, and help military families with a crisis; and

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross ofNevada continues to prepare its residents and community for disasters by offering family services, and donation services to support international efforts; and

WHEREAS, in honor of the American Red Cross of Nevada and their 100 years of dedicated service to our community, I encourage all Americans to support this organization and its noble mission during their centennial celebration;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  March 2017 as

 american red cross centennial celebration month in nevada
