WHEREAS, acupuncture and Oriental medicine have a long and rich history as components of a comprehensive traditional medical system that has been used to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease and improve well-being; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada was the first state to legalize acupuncture and Oriental medicine through the Chinese Medicine Act on April2o, 1973; and

WHEREAS, the Chinese Medicine Act established a new category of healing in Nevada, separate and independent from traditional allopathic medicine, and Governor Mike O'Callaghan was instrumental in bringing Oriental medicine resources to the residents of Nevada; and

WHEREAS, practitioners of acupuncture and Oriental medicine are dedicated to the highest standards of professionalism and maintain these standards through education, credentialing and a personal commitment; and

WHEREAS, millions of Americans seek the services of acupuncturists and Oriental medicine practitioners each year; and

WHEREAS, Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day in Nevada is an opportunity to learn about the potential benefits of acupuncture and Oriental medicine;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  April 20, 2017
