WHEREAS, native Nevadan and former Boulder City Mayor Robert Stanley Ferraro was born iô€€† Paradise Valley on July 30, 1935 to Ella and John Ferraro, and raised in the ranching community where he attended a two-room schoolhouse; and

WHEREAS, he graduated from Humboldt County High School in 1953, from the University of Nevada in 1957 with a degree in agriculture, and he earned his master's degree in agronomy and range management in 1959; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ferraro was.first appointed to the Boulder City Council in 1976, and in 1999 became the city's first elected mayor, and he was dedicated to the Boulder City community where he served for 31 years; and

WHEREAS, he was named Nevada Public Official of the Year in 1986, Community Leader of the Year in 2001, and served on the boards of numerous organizations in Southern Nevada, including the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Nevada Development Authority; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ferraro was devoted to the people of Boulder City, a champion for rural Nevada and worked hard to ensure all citizens had a voice; and

WHEREAS, he retired from Pacific Engineering and Production Company of Nevada in 2000 after 31 years working with the company as a chemical engineer; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Ferraro was passionate about history, he was a world-renowned bottle collector, co-author of two books on bottle collecting, and a collector and authority of rare Nevada artifacts; and

WHEREAS, he is survived by his wife Connie, daughter Dr. Christi Matteoni, son Greg Ferraro, daughter Tacey Ferraro, sister Jean Elges, brother Stephen Ferraro, eight grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and

WHEREAS, Robert Stanley Ferraro passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2017, and the thoughts and prayers of the Nevada family are with his family,friends and loved ones;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 19, 2017 as a day in honor of

 Robert Stanley Ferraro
