WHEREAS, native Nevadan E. Pierre Gezelin was born in Ely on April 11, 1942 and raised, along with his siblings Mary Kay, Joanne and John, in Reno; and

WHEREAS, he developed many lifelong friendships while attending St. Thomas Aquinas, Bishop Manogue Catholic High School, the University of Nevada, Reno and the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific; and

WHEREAS, from 1971 through 1977 Pierre served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Nevada, followed by years of private practice with his brother, John, and 26 years as a dedicated Senior Deputy Attorney General with the Nevada Department of Transportation; and

WHEREAS, Pierre displayed a strong work ethic and a commitment to those he served while also sharing his sense of humor and endearing laugh with those with whom he worked; and

WHEREAS, he will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, commitment to his family and friends, dedication to his community and pride in his Basque heritage; and

WHEREAS, Pierre was respected for his integrity and held in high esteem by all who had the good fortune to work with him, as he approached his profession with enthusiasm and good humor; and

WHEREAS, E. Pierre Gezelin passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017, and the thoughts and prayers of the Nevada family are with his family,friends and loved ones;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  June 30, 2017 as a day in honor of
