Proclamation Header

 

WHEREAS, forty-one years ago, our nation ended its military engagement in the Vietnam War, bringing to a close our military's involvement in what was then the longest war in our nation's history; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada honors both the men and women who returned home from the Vietnam War, and the approximately 60,000 men and women who selflessly gave their lives in Southeast Asia defending the cause of freedom; and

WHEREAS, of the 58,307 names listed on the National Vietnam Memorial Wall, there are 151 names of courageous Nevadans, and it is our solemn duty and obligation to pay tribute to those men and women who answered the call of duty with courage, devotion, and honor; and

WHEREAS, the citizens of the great state of Nevada must never forget the pain and suffering, much of which still lingers today, of the men and women who fought with honor and distinction, in the name freedom and democracy for all; and

WHEREASthe veterans of America's wars, and the families who share their sacrifice, deserve not only our respect and appreciation, but also access to the resources and assistance that enable them to thrive and succeed upon returning home to civilian life; and 

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada remains eternally grateful for the tremendous sacrifices of the brave heroes who gave their last full measure of devotion during the Vietnam War, with deep and abiding appreciation for those who answered the call of duty and served to defend our nation;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  March 29, 2016

 VIETNAM VETERANS APPRECIATION DAY IN NEVADA
