WHEREAS, the week of April 4-10, 2016, is National Public Health Week, and the public health community has adopted a theme for this year's observance of making the United States the "Healthiest Nation in One Generation" by 2030; and

WHEREAS, this year marks the 21st anniversary of the American Public Health Association sponsoring National Public Health Week and educating the public regarding issues related to improving health and wellness; and

WHEREAS, it is imperative to continue to promote health and wellness and the prevention of chronic illnesses while ensuring access to medical care and other measures of good health; and

WHEREAS, promoting a culture of healthy living remains a strategic priority in building Nevada's communities and maintaining a high quality of life, and encompasses ensuring access to safe housing, parks, and play grounds, encouraging walking and biking and other daily physical activities, promoting food security, reducing violence and crime, and supporting local businesses that value health; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health is committed to bringing a renewed focus to the work ahead through the Healthy Communities initiative, strengthening the state's public health infrastructure and supporting the Healthiest Nation in One Generation effort; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada extends appreciation to the many public health professionals working to build stronger and healthier families and communities, with continued commitment to instilling a statewide culture of healthy living and maintaining a high quality of life for all Nevadans;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  April 4-10, 2016 as

 PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK IN NEVADA
