WHEREAS, encouraging and supporting Public health initiatives that seek to raise awareness regarding harmful disabilities, diseases, and disorders helps to promote safer, healthier, and stronger communities in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, Parkinson's disease is a progressive disorder of the central nervous system that affects more than 1.5 million people across the United States, and approximately 60,000 new cases of Parkinson's disease are diagnosed each year; and

WHEREAS, researchers, care providers, and service organizations across the nation continue to work to find a cure for Parkinson's disease and develop improved methods for treatment and early detection of this disease; and

WHEREAS, the American Parkinson Disease Association, Inc. (APDA) wounded in 1961 in order to support research, patient and family services, education, and community awareness of Parkinson’s disease, driven by its mission to "Ease the Burden and Find the Cure"; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada Information and Referral Center of the APDA helps to raise funds and promote awareness of the needs of those living with Parkinson's disease across the state; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins communities and states across the nation in recognizing the important work of the APDA and its local chapters in raising awareness about Parkinson's disease, with continued commitment to serving those who are living with this disease and to supporting ongoing efforts to find a cure;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  April, 2015 as

 Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month in Nevada
