WHEREAS, the records of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency shoe there are 73,126 Americans still unaccounted for from World War II, 7,802 from the Korean War, 1,618 from the Vietnam War, 126 from the Cold War and 6 from Iraq and recent conflicts, for a total of more than 82,000 American heroes; and

WHEREAS, their families, friends and Americans across our nation still deal with uncertainty regarding their fates; and

WHEREAS, on July 18,1979, Congress passed a resolution authorizing National POW/MIA Recognition Day and it is now observed each year, on the third Friday of September, with ceremonies held throughout the nation at State Capitols, schools, churches, veteran and civic organizations; and

WHEREAS, in addition to ceremonies in the United States, this date is recognized worldwide through ceremonies at military installations and ships at sea; and

WHEREAS, the President has reinforced our nations rightful commitment to maintaining Prisoners of War/Missing in Action accounting as a priority of the United States; and

WHEREAS, we will honor and remember the American heroes who selflessly served our country and recognize the families, friends and communities impacted by the loss of all POW/MLA Americans still missing;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  September 16, 2016 as

 POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY
