WHEREAS, the Anti-Defamation League’s No Place Hate program is an important initiative that empowers people to challenge all forms of bigotry; and

 

WHEREAS, the No Place for Hate program has inspired service and leadership in the areas of bias and bullying prevention, education, and the well-being of our youth, helping to make our schools more inclusive and promoting safer learning environments for all students; and

WHEREAS, the 2016 NO Place for Hate Recognition Ceremony is their first annual celebration honoring the students and schools in Nevada that have successfully completed this program, and will be held on May 26, 2016 to promote the importance of effective anti-bullying programs in the lives of children, families, and communities in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, between 15-25% of U.S. students are targets of name-calling and bullying, while 15-20% admit they bully others with some frequency, highlighting the importance of programs such as No Place for Hate that teach students and educators how to become allies against bias, name-calling and bullying; and

WHEREAS, during Nevada's 78'" Legislative Session, this administration introduced Senate Bill 504, which was a landmark piece of legislation enacted to combat bullying in Nevada's schools through the establishment of the Office of Safe and Respectful Learning and other anti-bullying reform approved by the Legislature and signed into law; and

WHEREASthe State of Nevada continues to support efforts to end bullying and commends organizations such as the Anti-Defamation League whose effort to promote tolerance and combat prejudice contribute to safer schools and stronger communities;  

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 26, 2016 as

 NO PLACE FOR HATE DAY IN NEVADA
