WHEREAS, the Nevada Division of Museums and History preserves, shares, and promotes the understanding, and celebration of Nevada's natural and cultural heritage for the enrichment of all generations; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada State Museum, one of seven State museums, is the keeper of Nevada's heritage in the capital city; and

WHEREAS, the Nevada State Museum opened October 31, 1941 in celebration of Nevada Day, and celebrates its 75th anniversary today; and

WHEREAS, the museum is the site of the original US. Branch Mint, operating from 1870 to 1893, pressing coins of Nevada silver, and serving the mining industry to help build the American West; and

WHEREAS, District Court Judge Clark J. Guild founded the museum in 1939, raised community support, and served as chairman of its Board of Trustees until his death in 1971; and

WHEREAS, the museum includes the Marjorie Russell Clothing and Textile Research Center, with an exceptional collection of clothing, quilts, flags, and accessories, named for the former First Lady and Judge Guild's daughter; and

WHEREAS, the museum is dedicated to the stories of Nevada’s mining, railroad, American Indian, pioneer, military, natural, geographic and anthropologic past and its contributions to education, preservation, cultural leadership and tourism continue to make Nevada great;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  October 31, 2016, as

 NEVADA STATE MUSEUM DAY
