WHEREAS, the Classics and classical antiquity remain fundamental to modern society, and are reflected in our government, laws, literature, language, science, and arts; and
WHEREAS, the study of classical civilizations develops analytical and reasoning skills, as well as an awareness and understanding of many governmental institutions, literary conventions, and philosophical ideas; and
WHEREAS, the Nevada Junior Classical League NVJCL) is dedicated to the promotion and study of classical languages and cultures. The NVJCL consists of four chapters and more than 150 Greek and Latin students across the state; and
WHEREAS, the members of the NVJCL recognize the positive influence of classical culture upon our society by giving back in their communities in affirmation of the classical principle that good citizenship is inseparable from education; and
WHEREAS, Nevada Classics Week is held in commemoration of the traditional "birthday" of Rome-April 21st-offering the opportunity to promote and celebrate the legacies of Greece a Rome; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada commends the Nevada Junior Classical League for its commitment to promoting history and the cultural vitality of this state through its efforts to celebrate the study of classical languages and the ideas that continue to inform and inspire our democratic society;
