 WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to promoting the health and wellness of all citizens of this state, and supports efforts to expand public awareness regarding treatment and prevention of harmful disorders and disabilities; and

WHEREAS, Scoliosis, an abnormal curvature of the spine with no known cause, is a condition that affects 2-3% of the population, or an estimated seven million people in the United States, and is a condition that touches individual all walks of life, regardless of gender, race, age or economic status; and

WHEREAS, an estimated one million scoliosis patients require treatment each year, with approximately one out of every sir children diagnosed with this condition eventually requiring active medical treatment; and

WHEREAS, the primary age of onset for scoliosis is between ten and fifteen years of age, with females being five times more likely to progress to a curve magnitude that requires treatment; and

WHEREAS, Scoliosis screening programs allow for early detection of this condition, and may lead to expanded treatment opportunities which may alleviate the worst effects of the condition; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada proudly joins other states and communities across the nation participating in National Scoliosis Awareness Month in an effort to promote broader awareness of Scoliosis, and the need for continued research, effective treatment, and appropriate resources for those who are touched by this condition

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  June, 2016
