WHEREAS, the State of Nevada remains fully committed to fostering and maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all Nevada students; and
WHEREAS, Nevada is well served by a dedicated and capable corps of school social workers whose commitment to student success ensures that our state's young learners can thrive both within the classroom and beyond; and
WHEREAS, school social workers support the educational, social, and emotional development of Nevada's students by minimizing the mental health impacts poverty, abuse, bullying, grief, and addiction in order to enable students to achieve success; and
WHEREAS, school social workers utilize a strengths-based, system-wide approach to helping families remove barriers and impact their lives and the lives of their young learners, and through modeling and supportive services, assist parents in becoming advocates for themselves and for their students; and
WHEREAS, Senate Bills 504 and 515 were approved by the State Legislature and signed into law in order to ensure a safe and respectful learning environment for Nevada's students, and to provide for additional school social workers and resources to promote and enhance mental health and wellness for every student in Nevada; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is proud to recognize the critical importance of social work in our schools and the important role that school social workers play in the lives of students and families in communities across our state;
