WHEREAS, it is imperative to ensure that Nevada's children have access to safe, nurturing environments in which they are protected and cared for and in which they are able to thrive; and

WHEREAS, Nevada's foster parents meet a critical public need by providing care, love, and support for children in need; and

WHEREAS, the month of May has been designated as National Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the role each of us play in the lives of children and teens in Nevada's foster care system; and

WHEREAS, approximately 4,750 children in Nevada were in need of out-of home placement services in 2015, and nationally there are more than 400,000 boys and girls in foster care systems who need loving, caring individuals to help them become successful, self-sufficient adults; and

WHEREAS, Nevada is committed to promoting an effective and responsive foster care system which will allow children to remain in their communities and provide the necessary support of: foster parents to help strengthen our families and communities; and

WHEREAS, Nevada has introduced the Quality Parenting Initiative (QPI) to ensure that Nevada's foster families offer skilled, nurturing, prudent parenting while helping children to maintain connections with their family; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins states and communities across the nation celebrating the role of foster parents and the special impact they have on the lives of children and teens;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 2016

 NATIONAL FOSTER CARE MONTH IN NEVADA
