WHEREAS, throughout its history, the United States has honored and protected the fundamental right of citizens to express their religious beliefs without fear of persecution; and

WHEREAS, the freedom to practice one's faith, to participate in prayer and other forms of religious expression, and to engage in acts of worship are central to the U.S. Constitution's guarantee of religious liberty as enshrined in the First Amendment; and

WHEREAS, the United States Congress established the National Day of Prayer in 1952, and since the establishment of the National Day of Prayer, countless Americans hate observed this special day in their churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, cathedrals, and other houses of worship, as well as various public places, thereby honoring a proud national tradition; and

WHEREAS, the Constitution of the State of Nevada guarantees that the free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or preference, shall forever be allowed in this state, and Nevadans from many walks of life and with diverse religious backgrounds continue to find divine strength, comfort, hope, guidance, and inspiration through prayer; and

WHEREAS, with gratitude for the incredible blessings of God upon our state and nation, the State of Nevada joins communities and states across America in observing the National Day of Prayer, acknowledging the significance of prayer and religious liberty as deeply meaningful and sacred traditions that continue to occupy a special place in the American way of life;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 5, 2016
