WHEREAS, more than 15,000 of Nevada's youth are dependents of National Guard and Active Duty Service Members; and 

WHEREAS, Nevada's military children and youth make tremendous sacrifices as they face multiple deployments and long, difficult separations from their parents and loved ones serving to defend our nation; and

WHEREAS, throughout the month of April each year, community organizations and volunteers in Nevada and around the nation plan and participate in events and initiatives that recognize and raise support for the children of military families, a proud tradition established in 1986 by former Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger; and

WHEREAS, during the 78th Legislative Session, Senate Bill 200 was signed into law providing expanded educational opportunities for students of military families in Nevada, as well as a number of other significant pieces of legislation representing a comprehensive effort to expand and enhance supportive services to Nevada's veterans and military families; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada remains committed to becoming the most veteran-and-military friendly state in America, and proudly and unequivocally supports the brave men and women of our nation's armed forces who risk their lives to defend freedom, as well as the children of military families who also sacrifice in support of their loved ones in uniform;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  April 16-22, 2016 as

 MILITARY CHILD WEEK IN NEVADA
