WHEREAS, we owe an eternal debt of gratitude to the brave warriors who have answered the call of duty to serve in defend of our nation, willingly setting aside their personal safety and well-being as members of our armed form; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada seeks to become the most military-and-veteran-friendly state in the nation by ensuring access to the supportive services, educational and employment opportunities, health benefits and other resources and assistance our military service members, veterans, and their families deserve; and

WHEREAS, Nevada’s Book of Fallen Heroes was unveiled as an enduring memorial, housed in the State Capitol Building, honoring the sacrifices of every Nevadan who has selflessly given their life in each of our nation's wars, from the Civil War to the Global War on Terror; and

WHEREAS,Nevada, the "Battle Born State," is home to Nellis Air Force Base, Creech Air Force Base, Fallon Naval Air Station, and the Hawthorne Army Depot, where tens of thousands of active duty servicemen and women are stationed and engaged each and every day in the defense of our nation and our way of life; and  

WHEREAS, our military heroes and their families, from active duty service members to the intrepid citizen soldiers of Nevada’s National Guard, represent the very best from among us, and make incredible sacrifices in order to ensure that our homeland is free and secure, and that tyranny and oppression are defeated wherever they may threaten freedom around the world; and

WHEREAS, the people of the State of Nevada extend sincerest appreciation and gratitude to each member of our armed forces fighting to keep us free, and to each veteran who has served our nation, with deep and abiding pride and admiration for the inspiring patriotism, service, and sacrifice of our military men and women;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 2016
