WHEREAS, the concept of Leave No Trace was created by the United States Forest Service more than 40 years ago in response to an increased use of public lands and the effects of this use; and

WHEREAS, the member-driven Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics teaches people of all ages how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly, and through relevant and targeted education, research and outreach, the Center ensures the long-term health of our natural world; and

WHEREAS, Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics works to sustain healthy, vibrant, natural lands for everyone to enjoy, now and into the future and every person who ventures outside puts Leave No Trace practices into action; and

WHEREAS, Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts of the United States of America, was a lover of nature, and today Girl Scouts honor her legacy by promoting respect and love of the great outdoors by learning and using Leave No Trace ethics; and

WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada work to raise awareness and educate he people of the great State of Nevada about reducing their impact on the environment while enjoying nature and the outdoors;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  October 1, 2016

 LEAVE NO TRACE IN NEVADA
