WHEREAS, the week of May 15-21, 2016, has been designated as National Police Week, and special events and commemorations will be held throughout the month of May to honor the heroes in law enforcement who risk their lives and safety every day to protect our communities; and

WHEREAS, the brave men and women of law enforcement are on the front lines of public safety, willingly risking their lives to maintain law and order, respond to criminal acts and emergencies, assist their fellow citizens in times of crisis, and apprehend those who threaten public safety and welfare; and

WHEREAS, nearly 900,000 law enforcement officers are serving across the United States, and the State of Nevada is home to approximately 11,000 dedicated law enforcement officers whose efforts are critical to maintaining safe and livable communities; and

WHEREAS, more than 20,000 law enforcement officers, including 129 Nevada officers, have given their lives in the line of duty, making the ultimate sacrifice to protect the public and earning our eternal gratitude; and

WHEREAS, the names of Nevada's fallen heroes of law enforcement are engraved on the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial as a constant reminder to hold sacred the memories and legacies of these public servants who have given their lives to protect others; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada proudly joins states and communities across the nation in observance of National Police Week, in honor of the thousands of heroes who have given their lives to keep us safe, and with deepest gratitude and appreciation to all law enforcement officers who continue to serve and protect the public;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 5, 2016
