WHEREAS, the safety and security of Nevada's communities have been entrusted to the capable and
dedicated men and women of law enforcement who risk their own well-being every day to protect and serve the public with integrity and professionalism; and

WHEREAS, Nevada's law enforcement heroes are indispensable to maintaining safe and livable communities by preserving order during emergencies, ensuring that criminals and those who would harm the innocent are apprehended, and keeping,zμatch over our schools, neighborhoods, workplaces, and businesses; and

WHEREAS, the courageous 171e1 fand women of law enforcement willingly and honorably set aside their personal safety for the sake of protecting the public, at times facing death itself, with 129 Nevada police officers having made the ultimate sacrifice zn the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada proudly supports the approximately 11,000 active law enforcement officers serving throughout the state, recognizes their extraordinary sacrifices as well as those made by their families and loved ones, and extends deepest thanks and appreciation to them and to all who wear the badge; and

WHEREAS, beginning January 8th, the State Capitol grounds and the Governor's Mansion will shine with blue lights for three nights, continuing Nevada's long tradition. of honoring the memory and sacrifice of all law enforcement personnel who have given their lives in service to their communities, with infinite gratitude for their selflessness, courage, and devotion; and 

WHEREAS, the Nevada Family joins communities nationwide participating in Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, as we express our collective gratitude and appreciation to all members of law enforcement for their efforts to keep us safe;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  January 9th, 2016 as

 Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in Nevada
