WHEREAS, more than 300,000 citizens of Nevada have been diagnosed and are living with some form of disability; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes the right of individuals with disabilities to live independently, enjoy self-determination, make life choices, contribute to society and experience the full economic, political, social, cultural and educational aspects of American society; and
WHEREAS, Journey of Hope is an annual 67 day, 4,000 mile bike ride from California to Washington, D.C., with the mission of raising funds for efforts to increase awareness, understanding, and support for persons with disabilities across America; and
WHEREAS, Journey of Hope and similar initiatives serve to educate and inform the public regarding the needs of those who live with disabilities, and the importance of acknowledging their potential and dignity as individuals; and
WHEREAS, Journey of Hope cyclists will ride through the Nevada communities of Las Vegas, Pahrump, Carson City, Fallon, Austin, Eureka, Ely, and Baker during the week of June 17 - 22, 2016; and
WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is firmly committed to providing support and services to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, with recognition of their talents and potential and their positive impact on our state;
