WHEREAS, Elko Pride Festival is the exclusive LGBTQA Celebration in Rural North Eastern Nevada, and will be held on June 11,2016, in the North Fifth Street Park in the City of Elko; and

WHEREAS, both Elko and the great State of Nevada welcome visitors from neighboring states and around the country who will participate in the Elko Pride Festival, celebrating the diversity of Nevada’s communities; and

WHEREAShistory was made in 1996 when Kevin Ray requested and received the very first Gubernatorial Gay Pride Proclamation in the United States, issued by former Nevada Governor Bob Miller; and

WHEREAS, the Elko Pride Festival is dedicated to fostering acceptance of all persons, and 7 2 preventing discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, race, color, or creed; and

WHEREAS, Elko Pride Festival hopes to become the largest annual Rural LGBTQA Pride festival, inviting and welcoming thousands of tourists and local citizens to help raise for local LGBTQA non-profit organizations, strengthening Elko's local business economy and helping to make Nevada a stronger state by supporting the dignity, equality, and civil rights of all people; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada continues to support efforts to promote and protect civil rights, and acknowledges the fundamental preeminence of the timeless ideals of equality under the law, individual freedom, and the importance of diversity in fostering tolerance in our communities;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  June 11, 2016
