WHEREAS, eating disorders are related to serious emotional, mental, and physical health problems, and approximately 30 million Americans will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their lives; and

WHEREAS, eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and other types of disorders, affecting both males and females across a variety of age groups; and

WHEREAS, eating disorders are potentially life-threatening and frequently lead to serious health complications, including abnormal heart rates, dangerous blood pressure levels, muscle loss and weakness, and other harmful symptoms and side effects; and

WHEREAS, despite the significant health risks associated with eating disorders, they often go undiagnosed due in part to the stigma often attached to eating disorders, making early intervention a critical component to efforts to address eating disorders; and

WHEREAS, promoting the health and wellness of all Nevadans is a strategic priority for state government, and raising public awareness about serious health issues such as eating disorders helps to achieve the goal of cultivating healthy and informed citizens and communities; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is proud to join communities and states across the nation in an effort to focus public attention on the needs of those suffering from eating disorders;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  February 26, 2016, as

 Eating Disorders Awareness Day in Nevada
