WHEREAS, court reporters and captioners provide an essential service to Nevada's judicial system and help to facilitate the fair and orderly administration of justice in courtrooms across the state; and

WHEREAS, the dedicated professionals who serve as court reporters and captioners ensure that important public information is accurately recorded and transmitted, facilitating transparency and promoting public participation in the civic process; and

WHEREAS, millions of Americans who are deaf or hard-of-hearing rely upon the service of court reporters and captioners to provide information pertaining to public hearings, speeches, and other official events in a written format; and

WHEREAS, Nevada's court reporters and captioners must complete rigorous professional development and training programs and meet the highest standards of excellence in order to preserve the accuracy of historical records, court proceedings, legislative committee minutes, and other public functions; and

WHEREAS, SB 131 was approved by the Legislature and signed into law on May 19, 2015 to provide increased compensation to court reporters and transcribers, reflecting the critical role they play and the service they provide to Nevada's citizens; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada thanks and commends court reporters and captioners across the state for their dedication to public service and their contributions to the administration of justice;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  February 14-20, 2016 to be

 Court Reporting and Captioning Week in Nevada
