Proclamation Header


WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes that one out of 20 children will suffer the loss of one or both parents, or an immediate family member, and the majority of those children face their their grief alone, and are misunderstood and fearful; and

WHEREAS, grieving children and teens are often called "forgotten mourners" because others erroneously believe they are resilient enough to get over their grief on their own; and

WHEREAS, the unresolved grief of children and teens may lead to depression, hopelessness and other mental health issues, including anxiety disorders and substance abuse; and

WHEREAS, support programs throughout the Silver State offer comfort and guidance to children, teenages and families in their time of grief, while educating the community about the effects of unresolved grief on children and teens; and

WHEREAS, organizations across the State of Nevada strive to educate communities in order to better help grieving children now, and in the future;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  do hereby proclaim November 17, 2016 as

 Children's Grief Awareness Day in Nevada
