WHEREAS, the State of Nevada continues to pursue a strategic objective of maintaining a safe and reliable infrastructure that facilitates economic success, supports the sustainable growth of our communities, and serves as the foundation for the future prosperity of the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, Nevada's ongoing efforts to address issues of safety, energy efficiency, water conservation, and resilience in the built environments that affect our citizens, both in everyday life and in times of natural disaster, reflect a commitment to ensuring safety and reliability in the construction and design of the buildings and structures that comprise our communities; and

WHEREAS, dedicated professionals and officials are on the frontlines of promoting building safety in Nevada, including building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, laborers and others in the construction industry who work year-round to ensure the safe construction of buildings and whose expertise saves lives and protects property; and

WHEREAS, these professionals, as dedicated members of the International Code Council, use a governmental consensus process that brings together local, state and federal officials with expertise in the built environment to create and implement the highest-quality codes to protect Nevadans in the buildings where we live, learn, work, worship, and recreate; and

WHEREAS, Building Safety Month is sponsored by the International Code Council, to promote a broader public awareness regarding the critical role of our communities' construction safety professionals, especially our local code officials, who play a critical role in assuring the safety, efficiency, and livability of buildings in this state; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada extends thanks and appreciation to all construction safety officials and professionals whose efforts are essential to developing a safe and reliable infrastructure in this state, and encourages all Nevadans to take appropriate steps to improve home and building safety, sustainability, and efficiency;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  May 2016
