WHEREAS, approximately 1 in 68 children are identified as having an autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and more people are being diagnosed with an ASD than ever before due to a deeper understanding of, and enhanced efforts to diagnose and treat, autism and ASDs; and

WHEREAS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers autism and ASDs to be an important public health concern, and encourages efforts to identify children with an ASD as early as possible; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada continues to take critical steps to provide resources, assistance, and support for children and families touched by autism, not only through public initiatives and entities such as the Nevada Commission on Autism Spectrum Disorders, but also through the outstanding and dedicated efforts of non-profit and educational organizations and institutions; and

WHEREAS, Assembly Bin 6 (AB 6) was approved by the legislature and signed into law during the 78th Legislative Session as a major expansion of financial resources and access to behavioral therapy and mental health services for children and families touched by autism in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, various special events have been planned throughout the month of April to raise awareness regarding issues related to autism research, treatment, and diagnosis, including the "Light It Up Blue" Campaign recognizing World Autism Awareness Day on April 2nd; and

WHEREAS, the Governor's Mansion will participate in the "Light It Up Blue-- Campaign on April 2nd, representing Nevada's continued support for autism research and early diagnosis, and all Nevadans are encouraged to participate in similar efforts to raise broader awareness concerning issues related to autism;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  April 2016
