WHEREAS, Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) is a rare condition that is caused by below-average levels of movement during fetal development, characterized by multiple joints that are stuck in one position with very little flexibility, and which results in low muscle tone; and

WHEREAS, Arthrogryposis is an umbrella diagnosis with 400 identified syndromes and subtypes, occurring in 1-in-3,000 live births, and many individuals never have their subtype identified; and

WHEREAS, while there is no known cure, certain treatment methods including stretching, various therapies (physical, occupational, and speech) and some surgical interventions can help improve an individual's independence level and enhance their quality of life; and

WHEREAS, on June 30, 2016, families across the world will be wearing the color blue to honor those who have been diagnosed with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins states and communities across the country supporting efforts to increase awareness regarding AMC and its impact of the quality of life of those affected, with continued commitment to supporting persons who struggle with the challenges of this disorder;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  June 30, 2016
