WHEREAS, the President of the United States has designated March 2016 as "American Red Cross Month" focusing on the life-saving services that the American Red Cross provides; and

WHEREAS, in the event of any natural disaster, large-scale emergency or terrorist attack, America's first line of defense is its citizens who are willing to voluntarily respond and assist their community, their neighbors, and their friends, and

WHEREAS, a properly trained and equipped citizenry supports America's professional responders including local police officers, firefighters, and emergency medical personnel working to save lives, limit casualties, and protect property; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Nevada Chapter of the American Red Cross has taken the lead, since 1917, in preparing Nevada's residents and our community by teaching lifesaving skills such as CPR, First Aid, and Aquatics to thousands of Nevadans per year; and

WHEREAS, the American Red Cross of Nevada's volunteers help a family affected by a home fire or local disaster every 35 hours, help a military family with a crisis every 48 hours, and devote approximately 94,100 hours at an equivalency of nearly $2,023,066 annually; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada thanks and commends the many volunteers who devote their time and resources to supporting the American Red Cross and its mission of serving those in need;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  the month of March, 2016 as

 American Red Cross Appreciation Month in Nevada
