WHEREAS, the State of Nevada recognizes the importance of giving children permanent, safe, and loving families through adoption; and

WHEREAS, there are more than 107,000 children in the United States foster care system, including 4,316 in Nevada; and

WHEREAS, adoption can provide our children with loving adult connections that are critical to lifelong development; and

WHEREAS, Nevada has 670 children awaiting adoption, and 79 youth ages 15 to 18 awaiting adoption; and

WHEREAS, older youth in foster care face a greater challenge of achieving a permanent home; and

WHEREAS, to help these children find permanent, nurturing families, courts will open their doors on National Adoption Day, Saturday, November 19,2016 to finalize adoptions and join other organizations in celebration of all adoptions; and

WHEREAS, we honor and support those who open their hearts and their homes to provide children with a stable and loving home and family through adoption;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  November 2016 as

 Adoption Awareness Month in Nevada
