WHEREAS, Mr. Rossi Ralenkotter has been a resident of Nevada for more than 60 years, and has made invaluable contributions as a visionary leader and innovator within the state's travel, trade show, and tourism industries for more than four decades, devoting his career to developing and preserving the reputation of Las Vegas and the Southern Nevada region as the world's premier destination for travel and entertainment; and

WHEREAS, since 1973, Mr. Ralenkotter has worked with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), beginning his career as a research analyst before assuming leadership roles as the organization's Executive Vice President and Senior Vice President of Marketing, and serving as LVCVA's President and CEO since 2004; and

WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished tenure with LVCVA, Mr. Ralenkotter has been at the forefront of efforts to promote Las Vegas and Southern Nevada as the top international destination for tourists and businesses alike; and

WHEREAS, in his role as LVCVA's President and CEO, Mr. Ralenkotter led the most iconic branding campaign in the history of the tourism industry, a campaign that immortalized the Las Vegas experience and which is now recognized by millions around the world for its unforgettable slogan, "What happens here, stays here," which was inducted into the Madison Avenue Advertising Hall of Fame in 2011; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Mr. Ralenkotter, LVCVA continues to ensure that Las Vegas is a global trade show leader as the host location for 60 of the world's largest 250 trade shows; and

WHEREAS, the inestimable impact that Mr. Ralenkotter has had as a leader of Nevada's travel and tourism community is exemplified by his many honors and distinctions, including his numerous lifetime achievement awards, recognition as one of the 25 Most Influential People in the Meetings Industry by "Meeting News", as recipient of the prestigious "Pinnacle Award" by the International Association of Exhibitions and Events, his induction into the Hall of Fame by multiple travel, trade show, and tourism organizations, and his selection as a delegate to the White House Conference on Tourism; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his many contributions to Nevada's travel and tourism industry, Mr. Ralenkotter has also demonstrated a sincere commitment to public service, including service to our nation as a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force, and has been recognized as the 2008 UNLV Alumni of the Year, a 2009 UNLV Distinguished Nevadan, and was recently selected to serve on the Governor's Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada joins Mr. Ralenkotter's friends and colleagues at LVCVA, UNLV, and the entire travel and tourism community in extending congratulations to him on his well-deserved induction into the 2016 UNLV Nevada Business Hall of Fame, with deep appreciation and respect for his leadership and lasting contributions to Las Vegas and to the Silver State, whose story he has helped to write;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  March 24, 2017

 as a day in honor of Rossi Ralenkotter
