WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan was born on February 6, 1911, in Tampico, Illinois; and

WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan's life and legacy are distinguished by his profound devotion to the service of our nation, first as a member of the United States Army during World War II, as Governor of the State of California from 1967 to 1975, and as the 40th President of the United States from 1981 to 1989; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan successfully led the nation out of a period of economic turbulence, implementing policies that led to reduced unemployment and decreased inflation, increases in job creation and technological innovation, and a restoration of economic prosperity across the nation; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan was a fierce and courageous opponent of communism who stood proudly and unrelentingly for America's fundamental ideals of freedom and individual rights, and whose leadership in the global community was epitomized by his timeless words, ''Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" signaling the end of the Cold War and a monumental victory of liberty over tyranny and oppression; and

WHEREAS, President Reagan had a special kinship with the State of Nevada both as Governor of our sister state and as President, visiting the Silver State numerous times during his presidency and cultivating a deep and lasting friendship with fellow Republican and former Nevada Governor and U.S. Senator Paul Laxalt, whom President Reagan affectionately referred to as the "First Friend"; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada honors the memory and legacy of President Ronald Wilson Reagan on the 105th anniversary of his birth, with deepest respect and appreciation for his tireless leadership and fervent patriotism, his legacy of service above self, his inspiring commitment to liberty and freedom, and his abiding faith in the American people, whom he so nobly served;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  February 6, 2016 as a day in honor of
