WHEREAS, Charles "Chuck" Tyrrel Harton retired from the United States Marine Corps as a 1st Sergeant in 1966 after 23 years of loyal service to our country; and

WHEREAS, he was stationed in the Pacific Theater during World War II and continued his brave and dedicated military service through the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, 1st Sergeant Harton was awarded the Purple Heart Medal and Navy Commendation Medal with Combat for acts of heroism in Iwo Jima and Gold Star for acts of heroism in Korea; and

WHEREAS, in 1972 Chuck moved to Reno, Nevada where he obtained his broker license and later started his own agency which he operated for 40 years while raising a family and serving his community; and

WHEREAS, Chuck continued his legacy of service through an appointment by Governor Brian Sandoval to serve on the Nevada Veterans Service Commission and as the Chairman of the Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery Advisory Committee where he was a leading voice for wise stewardship of water resources at cemeteries in the Silver State; and

WHEREAS, Chuck has also served with the Navy League of the United States and was a member of the Marine Corps League and Veterans of Foreign Wars; and

WHEREAS1st Sergeant Harton passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2016 and the thoughts and prayers of the Nevada family are with his family, friends and loved ones;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  August 22, 2016 as a day in honor of

 Charles Tyrell Harton
