WHEREAS, efforts to promote the health and general welfare of the people of Nevada are enhanced by broader awareness and understanding of a genetic disorder known as 4p-/Wolf-Hirschhom Syndrome, which leads to low birth weight and developmental disabilities for newborn infants; and

WHEREAS, children living with 4p- syndrome face serious health risks, including cognitive and physical disabilities and complications, seizures, and other medical challenges as compared to peers in similar age groups; and

WHEREAS, dedicated health care professionals are presently making advances through invaluable research, exploring new therapies and diagnostic tools that offer hope to persons living with 4p- syndrome; and

WHEREAS, it is estimated that approximately 1,000 persons in the United State have been diagnosed with 4p- syndrome, though it is thought that many patients remain undiagnosed; and

WHEREAS, the State of Nevada is committed to supporting initiatives that raise awareness and support for those living with rare genetic disorders such as 4p-/Wolf-Hirschhorn Syndrome, and encourages all Nevadans to learn more about this and, other harmful genetic disorders and disabilities, and to explore ways that they can make a difference in the lives of those who are touched by them;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BRIAN SANDOVAL, GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, do hereby proclaim  April 16, 2016 as

 4p-/WOLF-HIRSCHHORN SYNDROME AWARENESS DAY IN NEVADA
