CARSON CITY, NV - February 01, 2018
Governor Brian Sandoval today announced the appointment of William Anderson as Director of the Department of Taxation, effective February 12. Anderson will replace outgoing Director Deonne Contine who resigned earlier this month.
“Bill Anderson has served as the state’s lead economist for more than a decade. During this time, he has worked closely with my office to stay ahead of economic trends and monitor employment statistics in Nevada. His work has allowed the state to better understand how dynamic job growth effects specific populations which has helped influence policy decisions,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “He is knowledgeable of our state’s revenue sources and I am confident in his ability to serve as both a member of my cabinet and director of this active agency.”
“I am honored to accept the top position at the Department of Taxation. The Department has assembled a top-notch staff who have managed the implementation of many complex policy initiatives recently and I look forward to joining in their tireless efforts,” said Bill Anderson. “My experience as the state economist has provided me with an opportunity to gain a strong knowledge of our state’s revenue sources. I look forward to working with Director Contine and the Tax Commission to ensure a smooth transition.”
Bill Anderson has worked as the Chief Economist for the State Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation since 2006 where he administers the bureau’s $3 million budget, provides economic and labor market analyses and commentaries to assist both public and private decision makers, and supervises the research activities of staff, in partnership with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Prior to this position, Anderson worked as an economist with the state budget office for 10 years. Anderson’s career as an economist and statistician began more than 35 years ago and includes time with the City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, The Pennsylvania State University, Indiana Department of Commerce and the Congressional Research Service in Washington, DC. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in economics and political science from the University of Michigan and obtained his master’s degree in economics from Wayne State University.
