CARSON CITY, NV - September 20, 2017
Governor Brian Sandoval today announced he has signed an Executive Order reconvening the Gaming Policy Committee to gather information, engage in discussion, and provide recommendations on policies related to the potential interactions between Nevada’s gaming industry and the state’s fledgling marijuana industry.
“Since passage of Question 2, I have called for Nevada’s marijuana industry to be well-regulated, restricted and respected. Gaming regulators have been clear on the prohibition of marijuana consumption on licensed gaming properties but there are additional policy considerations such as industry events and business relationships that should be contemplated,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “The Gaming Policy Committee is the right organization to take up these important issues unique to Nevada due to the state’s recent legalization of recreational marijuana and our gold standard gaming reputation.”
The Committee will discuss the following matters:
- The propriety of events on the premise of a licensed gaming establishment that cater to or promote the use, sale and cultivation or distribution of marijuana;
- The propriety of a licensee contracting with or maintaining a business relationship with an individual or entity engaged in the sale, cultivation or distribution of marijuana;
- The propriety of a licensee receiving financing from or providing financing to an individual, entity or establishment that sells, cultivates, or distributes marijuana; and
- Any other matter as directed and determined necessary by the Chair.
