Panama City, Panama - July 21, 2017
The first official day of Governor Brian Sandoval’s trade mission to South America began in Panama and focused on water infrastructure and tourism partnerships.
The day began with a meeting with S.E. Roberto Roy, Minister of Canal Affairs and President, Board of Directors. The Southern Nevada Water Authority and GOED Knowledge Fund project WaterStart were also in attendance for the meeting which focused on water technology priorities and needs and served as an opportunity to identify mutual areas of interests for future partnerships.
“As an emerging industry in our own state, it was important to meet with the Minister of Canal Affairs to better understand their focus on water technology and how they are relying upon this technology to continue to serve their economic interests,” said Governor Brian Sandoval.
“This is an opportunity for us to pitch WaterStart’s model in new places, and is proof of the progress we have made in the last two years as we’ve worked to cultivate the State's water innovation resources and services,” said WaterStart Executive Director Nathan Allen.
The Governor, GOED, representatives from the LVCVA and Claudia Vecchio, Director of the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs today also met with Pedro Heilbron, CEO of Copa Airlines. The focus of this meeting was to reaffirm Nevada’s partnership with Copa and to express gratitude for the company’s continued investment in Nevada. Additionally, future flight decisions were also discussed in the meeting.
The first full day of the trade mission ended with a reception to highlight Nevada as a tourism and economic destination which was hosted by the Nevada Department of Tourism. Governor Sandoval was the keynote speaker during the reception where he promoted Nevada as a great destination for business and tourism.
The Governor and his delegation will be departing Panama on Friday for Peru.
