Governor Brian Sandoval today released the following statement upon the formal announcement that Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta would retire effective August 8, 2016.

“Justice Saitta has served the people of Nevada with distinction and honor as a fair, consistent, and tireless public servant. The contributions to jurisprudence and justice she has made during her decade of service on the Nevada Supreme Court will have a meaningful and lasting influence on our state. On behalf of all Nevadans, I thank Justice Saitta for her dedicated service as a judicial officer,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “Justice Saitta has been a personal friend of the Sandoval family and Kathleen and I are excited to watch her pursue this new chapter in her life. Her passionate advocacy for juvenile justice reform and protecting the most vulnerable in our community is unmatched and we are fortunate to continue working with her in this capacity.

I will issue a letter to Chief Justice Parraguirre officially notifying him of a vacancy on the Nevada Supreme Court. The Commission on Judicial Selection will begin its formal process and I will give careful and thoughtful consideration to Justice Saitta’s replacement,” concluded Sandoval.
