Governor Brian Sandoval today issued a letter in response to the United States Environmental Protection Agency correspondence which requested the position of the State of Nevada on the listing of the Anaconda Copper Mine in Lyon County on the Superfund National Priority List. In the letter, the Governor insists on more time so that the State can continue to meet and engage with local elected officials including the Mayor of Yerington, County Commissioners, Tribal Leaders, and agricultural, environmental, mining, and community stakeholders to reach a satisfactory solution. All parties would like to see the site cleaned up. The health and well-being of community residents remains the Governor’s priority and he has been assured by the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection that there are no imminent concerns to public health and safety.
