Sandoval Announces Felicia Ortiz to State Board Of Education District Three Seat

CARSON CITY, NV - February 29, 2016

Governor Brian Sandoval today announced the appointment of Felicia Ortiz to the Nevada State Board of Education District Three seat, effective immediately. Ortiz will replace Allison Serafin on the Board for a term ending January 1, 2017. The appointment will be filled for a 4-year term during the November general election.

“Felicia will be a strong advocate for the residents of Southern Nevada’s District Three on the Nevada State Board of Education,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “The Board has been given new and expanded authority in implementing many of the accountability measures and allocating the unprecedented funding increase in public education as approved during the last legislative session. I am pleased Felicia has accepted this important position during this critical time.”

Felicia Ortiz was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico. She attended New Mexico Highlands University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting and a Masters in Business Administration from Keller Graduate School. Ortiz moved to Nevada to pursue a career and worked in the private sector for several years before opening a small business. Ortiz currently serves as past-president of the Las Vegas Chapter of the Association of Latino Professionals for America, is a member of the Latino Network of Southern Nevada, the Latin Chamber of Commerce, and is active in organizations and volunteer efforts in Southern Nevada.

The Nevada Department of Education District Three seat became available due to the resignation of Allison Serafin. Governor Sandoval’s appointee will fill the remainder of the term which is set to expire January 1, 2017. This seat will be up for election in November 2016.
