MELBOURNE, VICTORIA - July 28, 2016
Governor Brian Sandoval and members of the Nevada Delegation today met with Premier of Victoria, Daniel Andrews, and other State of Victoria officials to identify specific areas of mutual interest as well as opportunities for collaboration which included:
- The mining industry: innovation and the use of autonomous systems, water and environmental concerns
- Water technology and commercialization
- Potential academic research partnerships
- Healthcare improvements
“The State of Nevada is known worldwide as the leader in tourism and gaming, and that is a tremendous platform to have as we highlight the innovative industries that are shaping the new Nevada,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “Redefining existing industries and supporting the creation of emerging industries is not easy, and it certainly does not happen overnight. Incredible vision, perseverance, and dedication are what drive ideas forward, and I am energized to know that the work we are doing in Nevada has use across the world, especially in Australia. I look forward to the partnerships that we are cementing on this trade mission.”
In addition to his meeting with the Premier, Governor Sandoval also met with US Consul General Frankia A. Reed to introduce and promote Nevada and to receive a briefing on the economic and political issues facing Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, and Northern Territory.
The mining and higher education representatives spent today traveling to RMIT University where potential collaboration in autonomous systems for mining was discussed. The delegation also traveled to Deakin University to meet with the Vice Chancellor to identify areas for research collaboration and student/faculty exchanges.
The day concluded with a networking reception hosted by the Nevada Department of Tourism and Cultural Affairs where the Nevada business delegation was able to network with State of Victoria officials and economic development representatives. Performers from Cirque du Soleil provided entertainment during the reception.
