CARSON CITY, NV - October 06, 2016
Governor Brian Sandoval today announced the appointment of Ann Pongracz to the Public Utilities Commission, effective October 24, 2016. Pongracz will fill the vacancy created by former-Commissioner Alaina Burtenshaw’s appointment to the Nevada Transportation Authority.
“Ann will bring diverse experience and institutional knowledge of the utility regulatory process to the Public Utilities Commission. Her counsel has been critical to my administration as the State navigated recent major economic development decisions,” said Governor Brian Sandoval. “Ann has my full confidence and I am thankful that she has accepted this new role.
“I am grateful To Governor Sandoval for giving me this opportunity to work directly on the next generation of utility regulatory issues. I am fascinated by the interplay of regulation and market forces, and by the way technological changes may influence what’s needed from the regulatory framework,” said Ann Pongracz.
Ann Pongracz has significant experience working on utility regulatory issues. She moved to Las Vegas in 1993 to become General Counsel to Sprint of Nevada, which was then the major telecommunications utility serving Southern Nevada. Currently Ms. Pongracz serves as Deputy Attorney General/Special Counsel to the Colorado River Commission of Nevada, where she supports the CRC’s electric services staff, and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. She graduated cum laude from Harvard University and earned her Juris Doctorate from Temple University. Ms. Pongracz raised her family in Las Vegas, Nevada where she currently resides.
