Governor Brian Sandoval traveled to Las Vegas this morning following the incident on the Las Vegas Strip last night. At approximately 8:30 a.m. Governor Sandoval was briefed by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Joe Lombardo on the ongoing situation, response, and investigation. Immediately following this briefing, Governor Sandoval visited University Medical Center of Southern Nevada (UMC) where he thanked the trauma center staff and hospital administration. While at UMC, the Governor visited with an international traveler who was a victim of the incident and received updates on other patients who are being cared for at UMC. Governor Sandoval then visited Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center in Las Vegas where he met with two victims and additional family members. While at the hospital, Governor Sandoval thanked the medical and emergency room staff for their continued efforts.

After his visit to Sunrise Hospital, Governor Sandoval issued the following statement:

"I am very appreciative of the fine work of Sheriff Lombardo, the entire Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County Fire Department. I also want to recognize the calm professionalism of emergency room and medical personnel at hospitals throughout Las Vegas. We are all shocked and saddened by this tragedy, but we can be proud of how Nevadans responded when duty called. The State will provide any assistance requested by our colleagues in Southern Nevada. I ask that Nevadans say an extra prayer this week for the victims, their families and our emergency response personnel."
